As you can see, the Dominicana website received a much-needed renovation this summer. It’s the same ole Dominicana you know and love, just with a more refined look. Our goal for Dominicana this semester is that our writing will mirror the change in the website—the same posts and essays that our readers know and love, but with renewed efforts at clarity and depth.
Thanks to the arrival of newly-vowed reinforcements from the novitiate, we now have the capacity to increase the output of Dominicana. For that reason, we plan to continue the stream of biweekly posts while adding a new feature to Dominicana’s schedule.
This fall, the Dominican student brothers will share the fruits of our studies through Saturday Essays. While our weekday posts are mostly brief reflections, these weekend essays will feature deeper cultural, philosophical, and theological engagement. You can expect discussion of topics as diverse as Christopher Nolan movies, divine attributes, and the place of modern science in philosophy.
The mission of Dominicana is “the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” Some of our essays will talk about the Gospel directly, but others will talk about all things Gospel-related. Nothing is off limits for the Dominicana essay since, as Saint Paul says, “We take every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Cor 10:5). Art, culture, politics, and philosophy are all relevant to the Christian life; we just need to find their proper place. We hope the essays will find that place so that every facet of our lives will be pointing us Godward.
