General Chapters occur once every three years, gathering representatives from every Dominican province to decide on legislation for the Order. Gerard Francisco Parco Timoner III to serve as the 87th successor to St. Dominic. Father Timoner, a member of Province of the Philippines, where he has served as Prior Provincial, is a respected theologian whom Pope Francis named a member of the International Theological Commission in 2014.
